Tokeny v1.0 Official Release: Your AI All-in-One Partner

When OpenClaw chose to let AI execute fully autonomously, Tokeny took a different path — collaboration over delegation. In an era where AI capabilities are not yet fully reliable, we believe human-AI collaboration is the more pragmatic choice.

In early 2026, OpenClaw swept through the tech community at an astonishing pace on GitHub. It painted an enticing picture: send a message to an AI through WhatsApp or Telegram, and it would autonomously complete various tasks on your computer -- managing emails, organizing files, controlling your browser. This open-source project showed countless people the immense potential of AI Agents.

We were deeply inspired too. But after careful deliberation, Tokeny took a different path. Today, with the official release of v1.0, we want to share our thinking.

Collaboration, Not Delegation

OpenClaw's core philosophy is "AI as teammate" -- you send a message, and the AI autonomously handles everything in the background. This is a delegation relationship: you issue instructions, and the AI executes with full authority.

Tokeny chose a different kind of relationship: collaboration.

What does collaboration mean? You can see every step the AI takes in real time -- which file it's reading, what command it wants to execute, what keywords it searched for. You can interrupt at any moment, adjust direction, or correct mistakes. The AI is an assistant sitting right beside you, not someone working alone in the next room.

Why choose collaboration at this stage? Because large language models are not yet reliable enough to be fully delegated to. They make mistakes, hallucinate, and misinterpret your intent. An AI executing silently in the background can lead to errors that take even more time to investigate and fix. In collaborative mode, mistakes are caught and corrected the instant they occur.

Collaboration does not mean inefficiency. Tokeny's message queue mechanism allows you to continue entering new instructions while the AI executes a task -- the system processes them in order. You can also "jump the queue" at any time, interrupting the current task to prioritize urgent matters.

Safety as a Design Principle, Not an Afterthought

When AI has the ability to read/write files and execute commands, security is not optional. OpenClaw grants the AI full execution permissions -- it can directly operate your computer. This is efficient for technically proficient users, but it also means every AI mistake can have real consequences.

Tokeny has a built-in HITL (Human-in-the-Loop) approval mechanism at the architectural level:

  • Shell commands require individual approval: every command the AI wants to execute is paused and presented to you for confirmation before running
  • Intelligent risk assessment: the system automatically classifies command risk levels -- high-risk operations (such as rm -rf, chmod 777) trigger additional security analysis
  • File deletion requires secondary confirmation: delete operations must receive your explicit approval
  • Workspace sandbox: the AI's file operations (read, write, delete) are restricted to the workspace directory and cannot access system files beyond it. However, Shell commands are not constrained by the sandbox -- which is exactly why they require individual approval

When you need to execute many commands in succession, you can temporarily enable auto-execution mode -- but this is your active choice, not the default behavior.

We believe that at a stage where AI capabilities are still not fully reliable, "secure by default + opt-in relaxation" is more responsible than "open by default + deal with it later."

How We Differ from OpenClaw

OpenClaw is an excellent open-source project, and we respect its design philosophy. But the two serve notably different scenarios and audiences:

  • Interaction model: OpenClaw sends messages to AI through chat tools like WhatsApp/Telegram, emphasizing "remote control from anywhere." Tokeny is a native desktop application, emphasizing "AI right in front of you, working alongside you"
  • Execution strategy: OpenClaw favors fully autonomous execution, suited for well-defined automation tasks. Tokeny favors human-AI collaboration, suited for complex tasks requiring judgment and decision-making
  • Security mechanism: OpenClaw grants AI full execution permissions by default. Tokeny requires human approval for all high-risk operations by default
  • Model ecosystem: OpenClaw primarily supports overseas models like Claude and GPT. Tokeny focuses on the domestic large model ecosystem -- 7 providers, 50+ models, with better optimization for Chinese-language scenarios
  • Deployment: OpenClaw requires configuring gateways and messaging channels, with a certain technical barrier. Tokeny is a native desktop application -- no server or messaging platform configuration needed

Our Perspective

The development of AI Agents will inevitably progress from "collaboration" to "delegation." When model capabilities are sufficiently reliable and safety mechanisms sufficiently mature, a fully autonomous AI assistant will certainly be the ultimate form.

But in 2026, we believe the time has not yet come. Large models still make mistakes, still hallucinate, and still need human judgment to keep things in check. At this stage, enabling efficient human-AI collaboration -- rather than handing everything over to AI -- is the more pragmatic choice.

Tokeny does not aim to have AI do everything for you. Instead, it aims to help you do everything better.

Why the Name "Tokeny"

A token is the smallest unit of computation in a large language model. Every inference the model performs -- from understanding your query, to generating tool-call parameters, to producing the final response -- is fundamentally a token sequence generation process. Everything an AI Agent does consumes tokens. In other words, tokens are the computational currency of AI Agents.

Tokeny = Token + -y. The product name points directly to this technical reality: this is a Token-driven Agent system. Every thought, every tool invocation, every iteration can be traced back to specific token consumption. The real-time token usage stats you see in Tokeny aren't a nice-to-have -- they're the externalization of core product logic: making Agent reasoning costs transparent, controllable, and optimizable.

Workspace files and conversations can be stored locally. Online models, accounts and remote tools may still transmit relevant content to servers. See the current privacy policy and model guide.
